Exceptional Fabrics

Our Weights

 A Weight for Every Season

This traditional material has seemingly high-tech advantages; Harris Tweed is cool in summer and warm in winter – just one reason for its longevity and sought-after status. Chosen for generations as a practical choice for those working outdoors, Harris Tweed is water repellent, extremely hardwearing and repairable. Yet it’s equally prized by high fashion designers at leading luxury houses who recognise its incomparable quality, feel and drape.

Harris Tweed Hebrides offers three different weight options: superfine, featherweight and mediumweight, catering to different requirements, from high fashion to upholstery. For exact specifications, including weight, our specialists at Shawbost Mill will always be happy to answer your questions, so that your cloth is perfect for you. After all, a Harris Tweed item will last a lifetime – and beyond.

Naturally Breathable

As a 100% natural fibre, the pure new British Wool used to make our Harris Tweed is uniquely breathable and temperature-regulating. Tweed can insulate and keep you warm in winter and feel light and breathably cool in summer - perfect for the modern global climate.

Three Fabric Weights

Our cloth has many applications, and whatever your requirements Harris Tweed Hebrides has the right tweed for you. We offer three different weights – superfine, featherweight and mediumweight. Although each fabric is versatile, mediumweight is the heaviest, and can be used for upholstery and interiors. Featherweight is renowned for its use in tailoring, while superfine can be used to create lightweight garments.

Enduring Style

Whichever weight you choose, you’ll find that Harris Tweed is extremely hardwearing and naturally water repellant, perfect as a new generation of consumers seeks beautiful products designed to stand the test of time. It holds its shape and colour and ages wonderfully, as the time and care put into its manufacture translate into its longevity.
