Our 100% Pure British Wool is fibre dyed before being carefully teased and blended using our unique formulas. From our selection of 56 solid base colours, the way we blend different yarns makes infinite colours and weave combinations possible. The resulting weave has unparalleled depth and intensity of colour, offering unique tones and shades that can only be Harris Tweed Hebrides cloth – in demand to designer houses around the world.
Fibre Dye
When the pure wool arrives at our mill, it is initially dyed in one of 56 solid colours, inspired by our Hebridean landscape. Even the water up in the Hebrides is superior – clean and soft, which reduces the chemicals required in the process.
Fibre-dyeing at the raw wool stage ensures the unrivalled depth of colour for which Harris Tweed Hebrides is known, and highlighting each tone in the distinctive weave. It also minimises dye waste and results in a fabric whose colour is ultra long-lasting.
Unique Colour Blends
The extraordinary colour spectrum of the yarns dyed at our Shawbost Mill evoke the elements of our seascape; frothy cloud-like greys, heather purples, deep blues and greens of the sea and sky. We use traditional methods and formulas to blend the fluffy wool in its base shades into many more tones, before being spun into a strong, durable yarn, ready to weave.

Harris Tweed Hebrides will never bleach its wool; using the fibre in its natural state to create the lightest yarn shades, and REACH compliant dyes across our collection.
100% of our fabrics are OEKO TEX 100 standard certified, confirming the absence of harmful chemicals, including dyes and finishes, in our cloth.
