Harris Tweed Hebrides X Ryder Cup

Official 2014 Ryder Cup Harris Tweed
Golf and Harris Tweed go together like whisky and ice. Quite frankly, the links just hasn’t been the same since tweed plus fours, waistcoats and caps were de rigueur during the golden age of golf style.

So, Harris Tweed Hebrides was honoured to be commissioned to create The Official Ryder Cup Tweed by that Goliath of golfing; gracing the fairway for the first time in Scotland, at Gleneagles in 2014.

The Official 2014 Ryder Cup Harris Tweed was conceived and designed by Ken Kennedy, head of pattern design, at Harris Tweed Hebrides (HTH). The collection has been created in partnership with Walker Slater and is informed by golfing greats like Walter Hagen and Old Tom Morris but sensitively cut for the dapper gent and elegant lady of the modern era.
Inspired by the tournament’s signature vivid blue, and the distinctive dreamy blues of the Outer Hebrides, Ken Kennedy, (Harris Tweed Hebrides' Head of Pattern Design, and a colour magician), created a stunning herringbone design with a dynamic spectrum of cobalt to aquamarine.
A ‘new blue yarn’ representing the fusion of the Hebridean sky and sea was painstakingly created and 32 options in traditional herringbone were presented to a Ryder Cup committee; RC028 became the official Ryder Cup tweed.

The Ryder Cup Harris Tweed Official Collection features essential fairway accessories from hip flasks to caddie bags. And while the collection’s classic tailored riding jackets may now be too smart for swinging away in a sandy bunker, they will certainly cause a stir at the 19th hole.  The unique pattern and quality of the fabric together with the sustainable heritage it represents will be immediately recognisable on the fairway or the walkway.
